Attention all muscians: Gospel workshop coming

{Gospel Music Workshop of America Annoucement]

Portland/Vancouver Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America’s Youth/Young Adult Music & Worship Arts Workshop – Wednesday, October 15th through Saturday, October 18th

The Workshop will consist of various music classes [Vocal Techniques, Organ & Piano Playing Techniques, Tambourine/Percussion Playing Techniques, Choir Directing, Choir Decorum and Basic Music Theory] and will include rehearsals for a Children’s Mass Choir [age 3-11] & Youth/Young Adult Mass Choir [12-21+] plus Dance & Mime Ministries.   Our goal to train our youth in the way they should go, so they can be diligent workers in music & worship arts ministries for our churches in years to come.

We have four dynamic guest clinicians along with some our local music & worship arts leaders who will share their expertise with our young people.  Our featured guest clinicians are:

– Willis Hickerson [Richmond, CA] – Willis is a new transplant to the West Coast/Bay Area and is formerly with the Grammy and Stellar Award winning Wilmington-Chester Mass Choir.   Willis has worked with some of the top artists in the gospel music arena and is responsible for the production of numerous gospel recording projects. He is CEO of HIS Productions and is currently Minister of Exaltation at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond, CA

– April Wright-Hickerson [Richmond, CA] wife of Willis and former Assistant Chapter Representative of the Northern California Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America [Helen Stephens, Chapter Representative and Steven Roberts, Minister of Music].  April wrote and sings the lead on one of the selections of the Northern California Chapter GMWA Mass Choir most recent recording “Created for Worship” and recently just released a solo recording project.

– Kenneth Brandon [Jackson, MS] – Kenneth is the Associate Minister of Music at Jackson Revival Center in Jackson, Mississippi and has worked with several major gospel recording artists.  He has served as a former guest clinician for the Portland/Vancouver    Chapter GMWA Youth/Young Adult division.

– Lannie Spann-McBride [Jackson, MS] – Lannie is the Minister of Music at Greater Fairview Church in Jackson, Mississippi and specializes in music for children’s choirs.  She is a gifted singer, songwriter and musician, has several recordings and books and can be heard performing in the motion picture “Mississippi Burning”

Registration fees for the workshop are $10 per individual.  A discounted registration fee or $8 per individual for groups of 10 or more.  It is highly recommended that you pre-register your young people as space may be limited.  Please submit registration forms with fees to the Chapter’s mailing address [see letterhead] by October 1st.  On-site registration will be $12 for individuals and $10 for groups of 10 or more.  A registration form is enclosed [please copy and submit a registration form for each workshop participant].   Do not send cash. Make all checks/money orders payable to Portland/Vancouver Chapter GMWA.

The uniform for both the Children’s and Youth/Young Adult Mass Choirs [on Saturday] will be solid color t-shirts and denim jeans pants [boys/young men] & denim jeans skirts [girls/young ladies].  There is the possibility that we may get a corporation to donate matching color t-shirts for the mass choir members.  In that case we’re asking you to submit the t- shirt size needed for your child/children on the registration form [another reason to pre-register a.s.a.p.].  The clinician’s for the dance and mime groups’ will confirm their uniforms.

We hope that the young people at your church will join us for the spectacular Music & Worship Arts ministry opportunity.
