Obama chooses Prayer-Day proclamation over traditional ceremony

May 6, 2009

Fox News Quote
: “White House spokesman Robert Gibbs defended the Obama administration’s plan to recognize the National Day of Prayer on Thursday with a paper proclamation, rather than a public event at the White House.  “We’re doing a proclamation, which I know that many administrations in the past have done,” Gibbs told reporters Tuesday.  But that is a major change from the way the day was recognized during eight years of the Bush administration, when prominent evangelical and other spiritual leaders were invited to attend an event in the East Room.

I didn’t think it could get much worse. First he makes a special point of telling the whole world that the U.S. is not a Christian nation. Then he requires the sign of Christ be covered behind him when giving a speech at a religious institution. Now, he shuns the National Day of Prayer. At a time when this nation needs to be on its knees to pray for our country, he has chosen not to lead.

He may as well go back to attending Rev. Wright’s church where he can outwardly proclaim damnation to our country. Obviously he was listening to those sermons, and now we know why he chose to continue to stay on as a member of that church.

I have no problem with a paper proclamation, with no public event at the White House, but for those of us preparing for local events, it sure would have been nice to have it ahead of time to prepare.

I can tell you that there was negative comment and reaction when the proclamation was not available to read.

When you have an event which is public knowledge, such as the National Day of Prayer,it takes time for preparation.

What this looked like to me was an afterthought when someone reminded someone else that this needed to be done.
