News anchor: Tiger Woods should switch religion?

By Beaver Believer,

I was watching Fox News Sunday and was surprised to see the normally mild and monotone Fox newsman Brit Hume suggest that Tiger Woods needs forgiveness and he can’t find it in Buddhism but rather Christianity.    The comments made me feel uncomfortable.  I feel fine with personal religious expression, even among news anchors, but I feel cautious about when someone begins pitting religions against each other in such flippant way.   View the video below and see what you think of Brit Hume’s comments.

Brit Hume later explained himself further  on the O’Reilly Factor;

Brit Hume: “Tiger Woods is somebody I’ve always rooted for as man and as a golfer. … Now we know that the content of his character was not what we thought it was. He is paying a frightful price for these revelations. My sense is that he has basically lost his family. … My sense about Tiger is that he needs something that Christianity, especially, provides and gives and offers. And that is redemption and forgiveness…I was really meaning to say in those comments yesterday, more about Christianity than anything else.  I mention the Buddhism more than anything else because his mother is a Buddhist….Jesus Christ offers Tiger Woods something that Tiger Woods really needs.”

I felt better about what Britt had to say after this interview after he had a chance to clarify himself.
