France veil ban: Your opinion

France and Belgium just enacted a ban on full face veils pitting women’s rights versus religious rights.  Give us your opinion on our Oregon Faith Report survey (Click Here) and add your input on how Oregonians feel on this issue. AOL News reports that the new ban applies to tourists.

“French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s push for an all-out ban on full-face Islamic veils will affect tourists visiting the country, too.  According to a report by AFP, under the Government’s plan to ban the full-face veil in public places, tourists visiting France will be forbidden to wear the garment along with French residents.”


The tourism ministry estimates hundreds of thousands of visitors come to France each year from the Middle East. Junior minister for families Nadine Morano told the radio station France Info women wearing the veil will be fined but will not be unveiled “on the spot.”

“When you arrive in France, you respect the laws in force …. Everyone will have to respect the laws in France. That’s how it is,” Morano said.  Continue reading
