Oregon Faith News Note:

This week a federal appeals court has decided to accept a challenge by the U.S. attorney general regarding the religious rights of an Ashland church to consume a hallucinogen which contains ayahuasca and is called daime tea.

The Ashland church is called the Church of the Holy Light and was given the right to use this daime tea for religious purposes as decided by a U.S. District Court Judge in 2009.    It that decision that the U.S. attorney General is claiming is too limiting on teh federal power to control religious drugs.  The Church of the Holy Light has churches in Ashland, Portland and Bend and believe the daime tea represents a spiritual entity of the forest.

You can read more about the Church of the Holy light tea case at the Medford Mail Tribune [5].
