Family-Faith Film Review: Transformers 3

Critics Rating: 38%
Catholic News Rating:
A-III — adults
MPAA Rating: PG-13 — for intense prolonged sequences of sci-fi action violence, mayhem and destruction, and for language, some sexuality and innuendo
Plot Summary: Transformers 3 The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets

Reasons to Like: “Dark of the Moon does depict dedicated men, women and robots risking life and limb (not to mention fenders and wheels) to save each another and humanity from being enslaved by the Decepticons…Though Sam’s parents offer little more than (often inappropriate) comic relief, they do celebrate marriage and encourage Sam to work through conflict with Carly.

–“Strong moral worldview with very strong patriotic worldview and brief overt Christian references, including specific points about the value of the freedom of the few versus the will of the many, positive portrayals of soldiers, wariness of big government, the heroes hide in a cathedral”

Reasons to dislike: “The last hour delivers a nonstop apocalyptic conflagration so unremittingly intense that my CGI-numbed mind struggled to process the chaotic carnage onscreen…shameless objectification of Carly, played plastically by newcomer and former Victoria’s Secret model”

— “There’s foul language, some crude jokes and lots of violent action. So, strong caution is warranted.”
