50 year Jewish newspaper to close

For over 50 years the Oregon Jewish Review has served as an important voice and news outlet for Oregon’s vibrant Jewish community. As a sign of the times, the newspaper will close at the end of the year. To follow in its footsteps will be a newly created monthly Jewish magazine and also a newsletter email service.

Jewish Federation of Greater Portland Chairman Michael Weiner spoke to the closure by saying, “During the two-hour discussion, the board took its responsibilities with extraordinary attention and consideration. No one wanted to see the demise of the Jewish Review. It was a matter of very difficult choices, the economic reality of our current arrangement, and how to best serve the community and communicate in the years ahead. I’m proud that the members of the board had the courage to face those issues with those broad factors in mind and solely with a view towards the general good of the Portland Jewish community.”
