Oregon Faith News Note:

The University of Oregon hosted a nationally known death-penalty opponent, Sister Helen Prejean, who is a prominent author of which the movie Dead Man Walking is based upon. Sister Helen Prejean was joined by Rabbi Will Berkovitz from Seattle on October 17; the two shared thoughts on the Burning Bush narrative of Exodus 3 and then discussed saving the world, one individual and action at a time. The two managed to find common holy ground, both saying that the call of Moses had been highly significant in their personal calls to ministry. In addition, Prejean commented that she admired Jewish wisdom, while Berkovitz declared that his “favorite rabbis were priests,” according to the Eugene Jewish Review.

Sister Prejean also hosted a workshop for high school students at a United Methodist Church and gave a lecture at the UO Law School during her visit.
