[5]Oregon Faith News Note:

Oregon’s only Jewish newspaper has officially closed after an amazing 53 years of serving the Oregon Jewish Community. The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland cited economic reasons for closing the newspaper and plans to use the $100,000 in savings for other projects.

Oregon’s top gay newspaper, Just Out, has also shut-down at the first of the year. Just Out was published since 1983 with December being their last issue.    Last month The Oregonian took over management control of the Hillsboro Argus and cut staff.   Both papers are owned by the same company — Advance Publications.   Yet The Oregonian remains stronger with circulation growth reported in 2011 as promoted by The Oregonian circulation campaign.

In similar news, last year the owner of Bend Bulletin, Baker City Herald & the Redmond Spokesman filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and are dealing with financial retooling. These newspapers are owned by Western Communications.
