To ensure no children go hungry during summer vacation, Catholic Charities Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) Community Schools will serve breakfast and lunch to anyone aged 18-years and younger beginning June 25. Summer food provides children with free breakfast and lunch during the summer months when school lunch is unavailable.

“Last summer the David Douglas School District served more than 30,000 meals between June and August—a 61% increase over the year before,” said School Based Services Manager Alison Dunfee. “It is clear that summer meals are a very important resource for children and families experiencing food insecurity, especially in this economic climate.”

Catholic Charities will offer free summer meals at four SUN sites in East County. Locations and meal times are as follows:

Floyd Light Middle School June 25 – August 17 Breakfast 9 – 9:30 a.m. Lunch 12:30 p.m.
