God & politics swept up in hurricane Isaac

When natural disasters strike, people loudly question what God was up to.  It appears that Hurricane Isaac is no exception.  First it was actor Samual Jackson who Tweeteed, ““Unfair S—t: GOP spared by Issac !…Not understanding God’s plan!”.  After an uproar,  Jackson made amends by responding “Apologies to God, Tampa, da GOP & Isaac.”   Actress Ellen Barkin added her thoughts when she stated, “C’mon #Isaac! Wash every pro-life, anti-education, anti-woman, xenophobic, gay-bashing, racist SOB right into the ocean!

A religion professor at Chowan University, Keith Reich, humorously stated, “Therefore, since Isaac has interrupted the Republican National Convention, God must be against the Republicans. I guess we will have to wait to see if God also sends a hurricane to Charlotte in a couple of weeks, thus declaring himself an independent.”

The professor has a point.  It was GOP candidate Michele Bachmann just last  year who publicly hinted that God uses hurricanes to send messages — even political ones.  Bachmann said, “I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’ Listen to the American people, because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.”

What is the verdict?  Well, the word “Isaac”  comes from the word “Yitzhak” (sometimes Yitzchaq) in Hebrew, which simply means “Laughing One”.
