Two children, ages 11 and 7, attempted a carjacking and armed robbery in the Portland Freedom Foursquare Church parking lot. They first demanded that Amy Garrett, 22, give them her truck. When she refused, the older boy told her to give him her wallet and phone and showed her his .22 caliber handgun.
“He said it was fully-loaded and cocked and ready to go. He told me he was going to blow my brains out if I didn’t give him anything,” Garrett told KATU News.
Garrett drove away and contacted police.
The police apprehended the boys not far from the church. Because of their ages, they were placed in the custody of their families.
Then one of the kids returned to the scene of the crime while the victim was being interviewed for TV.
The father of the older boy, Joseph Charlton, was arrested in his home (located next door to the church) and charged with endangering a child by allowing access to a firearm.
