Posted By Administrator On February 19, 2013 @ 5:00 am In Uncategorized | No Comments
The Socratic Club at OSU will sponsor a lecture by Henry F. Schaefer on the topic, “Stephen Hawking, The Big Bang, and God,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, in the LaSells Stewart Center on the OSU campus.
Schaefer will discuss leading theories about the beginning of time and space and the story of life’s existence. From his perspective as a scientist and a Christian, Professor Schaefer will explore the far-reaching implications of the theory of the Big Bang, suggesting that it shapes not only our understanding of the origin of life but of the nature of God as well.
Henry Schaefer is the Graham-Purdue Professor Chemistry at the University of Georgia. He holds a PhD in Chemical Physics from Stanford University. As the author of more than 1300 publications, Schaefer is one of the most cited chemists in the world. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the recipient of the Centenary Medal of the Royal Society of Chemistry (London). He has received many distinguished awards including the Joseph O. Hirschfelder Prize, the Ira Remsen Award of the American Chemical Society, the prestigious Ide P. Trotter Prize of Texas A&M, and the Schroedinger Medal. He is the author of “Science and Christianity: Conflict or Coherence.”
In the event that you can’t attend the event, a live stream of the lecture will be available for viewing at http://live.oregonstate.edu/
