Waiting with the Lord

Waiting with the Lord
How lovely is your dwelling place,
Lord Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.

Psalm 84:1-4

Lately, I have been in one of those commonly unwelcome seasons called “waiting”. Waiting is a difficult thing for a human to do. But when life slows down and you are in this season it is a great opportunity do some work on your soul. So that is what I have been doing; calling on Him, going to the the Psalms for help expressing whats in my heart and putting myself back in a position of humility so God could re-shape my soul (Psalm 84:1-4).

When Paul was stuck in prison it invoked a season of not just waiting on the Lord, but waiting WITH the Lord. He didn’t stop encouraging all the churches that looked for his leadership. He never stopped advancing the Gospel. And, of course, he did this all through very difficult circumstances.
Paul may not have known that his season of waiting came with great purpose. We may not either. But when we find ourselves in this place we must pick our spirits up and hand them to Jesus and say “use me” and persistently ask Him to re-shape us. This summer Paul taught me how to not only to wait on the Lord but to wait WITH the Lord. No matter what season you are in, the words of Psalms 84 are true and he is calling you to find a home with our Lord God Almighty.
