Oregon Right to Life Celebrates Third Anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson Decision
By Oregon Right to Life [6],

Salem, Ore — Today, June 24, 2025, marks the third anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic decision in Dobbs v. Jackson. The landmark ruling overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, ending the federal “right to abortion” and returning the issue to the people through their elected representatives.

The U.S. Supreme Court released its long-awaited decision on June 24, 2022, declaring that Roe (1973) and Casey (1992) had been wrongly decided. In the majority opinion, Justice Samuel Alito wrote: “We therefore hold that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. Roe and Casey must be overruled, and the authority to regulate abortion must be returned to the people and their elected representatives.”

To date, 22 U.S. states have enacted legislation to protect unborn children, ranging from various gestational limits to laws protecting all unborn lives with only narrow exceptions.

“June 24 has become a very special day for the pro-life movement,” Oregon Right to Life Executive Director Lois Anderson said. “Today, we celebrate the overturning of Roe and Casey and remember the generations of pro-life advocates who have dedicated their lives to building a culture of life. It is their dedication that kept this issue front and center and led to the overturning of Roe. This is also a day to reflect and mourn the tragic loss of at least 63 million unborn children whose lives were violently ended through abortion since Roe was decided. And we grieve for the many men and women who live today with the memory and trauma of abortion.”

“There is still so much work to be done,” she continued. “Abortion is still legal on-demand until the moment of birth here in Oregon, and recent statistics have shown a heartbreaking increase in abortions in our state – including a devastating 165% increase in late-term abortions in 2023.”

“On this third anniversary of Dobbs, we recognize the need for increased pro-life advocacy. The end of Roe was a new beginning for the pro-life movement: an opportunity for further progress,” Anderson concluded. “Oregon Right to Life is determined never to back down from this human rights effort to protect the unborn and support women and families with life-affirming resources and options.”
