George Fox University, a liberal arts college in Newberg, Ore., has grown in the past two decades to become the state’s largest private university with more than 4,350 students enrolled this year, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting. What started as a small Quaker college has grown into a nondenominational Christian college fostering a sense of fellowship among students. As public universities and colleges face declining enrollment and cutbacks in federal funding, George Fox has seen more students flock to the campus where they can grow spiritually, academically, and personally, said Lindsay Knox, vice president for enrollment and marketing. One of its most popular majors is nursing. This is encouraging news for Oregon education since several Oregon colleges have closed or merged such Marylhurst University and Multnomah University. The pandemic brought a large decline in collegiate enrollments.
