A stone pin of Tsagaglalal, created by Native American artist Lillian Pitt, will represent Oregon’s submission to the America250 time capsule that will be buried on July 4, 2026, in Philadelphia, according to KVAL [6]. The 250 Oregon Commission selected the pin of “She Who Watches,” a chief transformed into stone who keeps vigil over her people and the Columbia River, as the state’s submission to the capsule that will be opened in 2276—500 years after the founding of the United States of America. Pitt, one of the state’s most celebrated indigenous artists, said she’s honored to have her work included in the capsule.
