A Lane Community College class on Islam has been canceled. The Council on American-Islamic Relations has protested the teacher, Barry Sommer, for lacking qualifications and for being a chapter of Act! for America which they state is an anti-Muslim organization The College President, Mary Spidle, told the Register Guard that “When it got on our radar, given the recent events in Portland and Corvallis, we said, ‘Wait a minute, we need to be very careful and really consider how Lane engages learning experiences in this environment.”
Sommers is seeking legal help to see if his rights may have been violated.
