Centurty old NW church faces demolition — reflects decline

Faith News Note,

The First Congregational Church in Tacoma is facing extinction which puts their 104 year old church in danger of being demolished. Once a thriving congregation of 700 people it has now dwindled down to 40 members. Their choir has been replaced by a cassette tape. This comes at a time when long standing mainline protestant churches have been witnessing declines. Among the top 10 largest mainline denominations are the Southern Baptist, United Methodist, Lutheran and Presbyterian denominations and all of these church denominations saw declines in memberships in 2011. Catholic and more independent church saw increases.

Below is a video from Northwest Cable News on the decisions the Tacoma church has to face.
