Evangelicals and Catholics find common ground

September 1, 2017

Kudos To Evangelicals

Via Catholic League

The Catholic League has a long history of mutual cooperation with evangelical Christians on a host of cultural issues. In that spirit, we condemn the unfair attacks against the statement on marriage, family and sexuality that was signed by more than 150 evangelical leaders following their conference in Nashville last week.

“Hateful,” “homophobic,” “anti-LGBT” are among the hysterical condemnations of the statement flying around print, broadcast, and social media. But the statement is none of those things.

While restating long-held Christian teaching that marriage is ordained by God as the “lifelong union of one man and one woman,” and that differences between male and female are “divinely ordained” and unchangeable, the statement does not single out homosexual or transgender persons. It emphasizes that all human beings are called to “chastity outside of marriage and fidelity within marriage,” reiterating the immorality of heterosexual intercourse “before or outside marriage” as well.

Nor can the statement accurately be termed “hateful.” Quite the contrary. It affirms God’s “merciful” love and forgiveness. It rejects the idea that “divinely ordained differences between male and female” somehow “render them unequal in dignity or worth.” It refutes the notion that same-sex attraction “puts a person outside the hope of the gospel.” And it calls on Christians to “speak the truth in love at all times” and to never “speak in such ways that dishonor God’s design.”

In short, the statement is a loving, faith-filled affirmation of timeless Christian teachings on marriage, family and human sexuality. In these tumultuous times, we continue to stand with our evangelical brothers and sisters in defending these traditional moral values.

Thanks for this excellent affirmation of the truth of God’s word that Jesus said sanctifies and sets us apart from the world, as He sanctified Himself, for which the world will hate us as it hated Jesus, and that Jesus said always is taught and preached by all repentant believers who have the same faith in the name of Jesus for repentance and forgiveness of our sins, as we love and forgive all others who sin against us, loving and forgiving sinners and enemies in the world, and especially loving one another repentant believers as Jesus loved us, with His life laid down to give us eternal life in Himself.

“14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
17 ¶ Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.” (Joh 17:14-19 NIV)

“45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Lu 24:45-47 NIV)

“44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Mt 5:44-45 NIV)

This is how God gives in the same way, the same eternal life of His Spirit, the Spirit of eternal holiness and eternal love for all believers to live starting now in every repentant believer, including Evangelicals, Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox, as well as to those coming, yet-to-be-converted unbelievers in the world who will know Jesus was sent by the real God of all power in heaven and earth in Jesus, when the world sees us repentant believers united in that one Spirit of God’s perfect holiness and eternal love for all repentant believers in His name, that was, is, and always shall be, in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

“that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (Joh 17:21 NIV)

A month from now the “Nashville Statement” will be all but forgotten. It will be ignored by the growing number of churches that welcome and support their LGBT Christian members and their spouses.

Here’s something that may warm your heart: End Times radio host Rick Wiles used his “TruNews” broadcast yesterday to declare that the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey is God’s punishment for Houston’s “affinity for the sexual perversion movement.”

QUOTE: “This is a proud city that, in recent years, has boasted of its allegiance, its dedication, its devotion to the homosexual/lesbian agenda,” he said. “How’s it working out for them right now?” he asked. “Here’s a city that has boasted of its LGBT devotion, it’s affinity for the sexual perversion movement in America. They’re underwater.”
