Governors & mayors make calls for public prayer, fasting
By Oregon Christian Post,

A governor and a mayor have made two separate calls for prayer and fasting this summer.

Governor Rick Perry of Texas has invited all 50 governors to join him for a time of prayer at a stadium in Houston.   On the East Coast the mayor of Philadelphia’s capitol has called on city residents for three days of prayer and fasting to deal with the city’s budget problems.

Below is the video of Rick Perry invitation to the nationwide prayer event.  According to “The Response” website the event is based on this principle, “We believe that America is in a state of crisis. Not just politically, financially or morally, but because we are a nation that has not honored God in our successes or humbly called on Him in our struggles. ”

The Mayor of Pennsylvania’s capital city of Harrisburg has called the public to a time of prayer and fasting for the city’s budget problems.  The city is facing a $3.5 million deficit out of a $58 million budget. A state report said of the budget crisis, “The City of Harrisburg is facing a direct, immediate and grave financial crisis. The financial crisis is so severe that the City teeters uncomfortably on the verge of bankruptcy that could be triggered at any moment by parties outside its control.”The Mayor, Linda Thompson, has reached out to Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders to encourage their member sot pray and fast for three days this week.
