Lake Oswego United Church of Christ (LOUCC) and Beit Haverim (BH) in collaboration with Oregon United For Marriage will hold an open house on February 9, 2014. The open house is part of the LOUCC and BH series which aims to raise awareness and reach out to the community to promote personal and spiritual growth, deepened relationships, and collaboration to make a difference.

Oregon United for Marriage is a broad coalition of individuals and organizations working to win the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in Oregon. LOUCC and BH are proud to partner with the coalition in bringing this event to the public to raise awareness in time for the November 2014 ballot.

On February 9, guests will be able to view the Oregon United For Marriage traveling photo exhibit which features the experiences, stories, and perspectives of clergy, parents of gay children, and LGBT couples of faith who support the freedom to marry. Through audio interviews and photos, people from a variety of Jewish and Christian traditions tell their own stories. The intention is to share with our community how persons from a wide spectrum of Jewish and Christian faith traditions support freedom to marry and how their faith informs this support.

The event will also feature speakers and musicians who will alternate brief presentations in the sanctuary.

Revered Jennie Ott states that “People of faith have such an important role to play in winning the freedom to marry here in Oregon. At Lake Oswego United Church of Christ, our faith mandates love and inclusion for all couples, regardless of gender. Along with Beit Haverim, we look forward to lifting our voices in support of marriage for all committed couples.”

Rabbi Alan Berg agrees adding that “Beit Haverim is committed to dignity for all people. As we join hands, and share our voices with our partners at the Lake Oswego United Church of Christ in support of marriage equality, we hope to be a source of strength to the larger community. Come and sing and learn with us.”
