Pastors to rally at Ore. Capitol steps

By Christian News Northwest

One of the nation’s most prominent Christian public policy agencies is sending one of its leaders to Oregon this month to call pastors and Christian leaders to take a stand for faith and righteousness.

Randy Wilson, national field director for church ministries for the Washington, D.C.-based Family Research Council, is traveling throughout Oregon Feb. 9 and 16. He will be joined by Denny Stahl, pastor of Calvary Chapel Grants Pass, and also at some of the events by Wilson’s wife, Lisa.

“We will be calling pastors and leaders to join us on the steps of the State Capitol building in Salem at noon on Saturday, February 14th – Oregon’s 156th anniversary of statehood — to call out pastors and leaders to return exactly one year later, Sunday, February 14, 2016, to ‘Take A Stand’ and make a proclamation that calls upon this state to return to faith in God, and faithfulness to His Word,” said Stahl.

In that event and others, Wilson and Stahl also will call attention to Watchmen on the Wall, the council’s ministry to pastors, which has set a national gathering of pastors and Christian leaders Wednesday through Friday, May 20-22, in Washington, D.C.

“We believe the problems we face in our communities and our nation are not just political and cultural, they are spiritual in nature,” said council President Tony Perkins, basing his view on Ephesians 6:10-13. “Consequently, these problems ultimately require a spiritual solution administered by spiritual leadership. That is why we are championing pastors to transform America.”

Before joining the council, Wilson worked in the public policy department of Focus on the Family, where he started and developed state Family Policy Councils across the country. He also served the local church as a family life pastor. He and Lisa, married for 26 years with seven children and two sons-in-law, founded Generations of Light Ministry, an outreach to families, and co-authored three books. Confirmed at press time for Wilson are a Feb. 10 pastors’ and leaders’ breakfast in Grants Pass and a pastors’ luncheon in Eugene, a midweek worship service Feb. 11 in Grants Pass, a Wonders of Oneness marriage conference with both Wilsons in Grants Pass Feb. 13 and 14, the event on the Oregon State Capitol steps in Salem on Feb. 14, and two Sunday morning services in Grants Pass Feb. 15.
