Portland Archbishop Sample on Ukraine,
Greetings, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I wanted to take a moment today to deliver a message to all of our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, especially here in the Archdiocese of Portland, due to the continuing terrible crisis in Ukraine and the great suffering of the people of Ukraine under this Russian invasion.
We have the parish, The Nativity of the Mother of God of Ukrainian Catholics here in Springfield. We also have a small Ukrainian Catholic community here in the greater Portland metro area.
And especially to you my brothers and sisters I want to assure you of my solidarity with you, my prayers for you. I have been carefully following the events in Ukraine.
Know that your brothers and sisters in the Latin Church here in western Oregon stand in solidarity with you and are united with you.
I am also part of two international organizations that provide support to the Church in crisis areas. “Aid to The Church in Need” and “The Catholic Near East Welfare Association.” Both of these organizations to which I belong are providing not only moral and prayer support, but also financial support to help the suffering Church and Christians in Ukraine.
My dear brothers and sisters, please know that we are with you, that we love you, and that we are praying for you.
God bless you.
Archbishop Sample
