Michael Jordan donates $1M to Portland hospital

Michael Jordan just donated $1 million to Portland’s Providence Heart Institute to help create a cardiac disease center. The center is to be named after a NIKE star, Howard “H” White, who is vice-president of the Jordan brand and for whom underwent a heart transplant from Providence many years ago.

This shows the importance of philanthropy to creating new expansions to local hospitals.

NIKE’s co-founder Phil Knight has donated $2 billion to charity.

Yet, high taxes continue to push entrepreneurs and philanthropists out of the state.

Howard White said of the donation, “If you believe anything is possible, you owe it to the world to help someone else believe. I believe this new center will help save more lives, help people avoid needing a heart transplant like I did. And I’m both humbled and inspired by the friends who are joining in to help Providence make this belief a reality,”
