On his 68th birthday two years ago, Rev. Rick Hanneman, an avid bicyclist and associate pastor at King’s Circle Assembly of God in Corvallis, woke in the middle of the night and fell after experiencing lightheadedness, then found himself paralyzed from the neck down, according to AG News. But his desire to spread God’s Word never diminished as he continues to serve in ministry with his wife, Susan, who has been a pianist, church secretary, and youth group leader. They served as interim pastors at churches in Oregon and Southern California for 47 years.
The night before he fell, after spending the day pondering Hebrews 11:21 where Jacob blessed the sons of Joseph from his deathbed, he told God he would serve him all the days of his life. Then he fell and compressed his spinal cord. Only his mouth still works.
Today, after surgeries and therapies still left him quadriplegic, he preaches messages of God’s promises and hope at the care center in Albany, Ore., where he lives and in churches throughout the community. He and Susan are the parents of two and grandparents of three, according to the AG News.
