Portland’s Moda Center hosted the largest Christian gathering in decades in early August as 45,000 people crammed into the indoor sports arena over three days to worship Jesus Christ, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive. The crusade featured prayer, biblical teaching and musical worship as Christians waved their arms, applauded, and praised God. Brett Meador, senior pastor at Athey Creek Church in West Linn, Ore., organized the PDX Crusade, the first evangelistic Christian crusade in a quarter of a century. He hopes to return faith to the city that has made national headlines for its homelessness, vandalism, drug culture and shuttering of downtown businesses. What the city needs, he said, is Jesus. Portland, ranked among the nation’s least religious cities, saw hundreds of people celebrate Jesus and worship with contemporary Christian musicians, share testimonies, listen to sermons, and give their lives to Jesus during a baptismal intermission. Meador started Athey Creek Church in 1996 after serving in Southern Oregon, and today it serves about 1,500 people during each of six Sabbath services.
