The December 14 attack on members of the Australian Jewish community celebrating Hannukah, which killed 15 people and injuring 42 others, prompted Oregon leaders to bolster security at events.
• Security was tightened as 500 people gathered at Pioneer Square in Portland to mark the beginning of the eight-day Jewish holiday and at similar menorah-lighting events throughout the state designed to dispel the darkness.
• Portland Police has added patrols around synagogues in December.
Portland, the City of tolerance, has become unsafe for many Jewish residents.
Last year, a Portland music venue was vandalized for having a Jewish musician and a local comedy club was vandalized for having a Jewish comedian.

Last year, Portland State University had the library takeover which came with signs to commit war against Jewish people (Intifada).

Portlanders conduct protests calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.

There was antisemitic calls at the ICE protest this year.

At the Portland tree lighting ceremony this year, one guest speaker wore the red triangle which is an antisemitic symbol and is banned in other countries.
