More Oregon birthing centers closing

By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,

Employees said they worked nearly a month without pay before Midwives at Andaluz Waterbirth Center closed abruptly.  In Oregon Legacy Mount Hood’s Family Birth Center is closing.  A Springfield, Ashland and Bend center have already closed.  Maternity services at Samaritan Lebanon  and Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital almost closed recently.  This represents more closings due to Oregon’s birth problems.

The Andaluz Waterbirth center closing came with great controversy. Their last payday was May 22, but their paycheck two weeks later never arrived, and the center closed its doors after more than 26 years, leaving many Portland moms without the support they sought when delivering their babies. The original business sold in 2021 to Birth Partners Incorporated, which recently closed centers in Illinois and Ohio.
