School District eyes church property it wants to take

By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,

SouthLake Church spent many years searching for a new location. They found one with an abandoned church in Lake Oswego. A perfect fit. Not so fast, says the Lake Oswego School Board. Nearby is a school, and the District wants to expand its school. The new church says it is willing to work together, such as by sharing its parking lot with the school. It is a great fit because both organizations use the parking lot at different times.

Who needs to share when the government can just take it all? The School District is working on taking the property by force. This would be an abuse of government eminent domain authority.

Salem-Keizer School Board used eminent domain to acquire six acres of property owned by the St. Edward Catholic Church. In Federal Way Washington, the Christian Faith Center Church property has been targeted by Washington’s local transit agency for eminent domain.
