Pastor's 48-state cycle fundraiser to end in Oregon

June 30, 2008 --

Nationwide tour begins in California and ends in Pendleton Oregon on July 7th

Calif.Mark Merical touches lives every day in his role as a pastor of Bakersfield’s Calvary Bible Church and now he is embarking on the ride of his life, an eight-day, 48-state motorcycle tour to raise critically needed funds for the Flood Ministry, a local faith-based organization that works with area churches to serve the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the impoverished and underprivileged.

 Alone and pregnant, I desperately wanted a job and to build a better life for myself and my growing family. My pregnancy made me extremely nauseous, and it was a struggle everyday to pull myself together, get out the door and look for work. I had a condition called “hyperemisis Gravidarum” which is basically the inability to keep food or liquids down during pregnancy. It is usually treated with meds and/or hospitalization but I had no medical insurance.

Teen son of faith-healing parents dies without treatment

June 18, 2008 --

GLADSTONE A 16-year old boy died yesterday whose Gladstone parents who are members of the faith-healing church Followers of Christ which emphasize prayer over medical treatment. His illness was related to adominal pains and breathing problems and has been suffering from it for more than a week. The boy’s cousin died last March from bronchial pneumonia and a blood inffection.  This issue is bound to restart the debate over faith and mandatory medical treatment laws.
