WA Capitol puts up atheist statement next to nativity

December 5, 2008

By Beaver Believer, Portland

In Washington’s capitol, in Olympia, the Freedom from Religion Foundation was successful in placing a placard next to the nativity display.  The sign has generated national attention, including heated discussion on the Bill O’Reilly show.   Here is the story link and below is the wording on the placard.

“At this season of the Winter Solstice, may reason prevail.
There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell.
There is only our natural world.”
Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.”

It seems that legal battles are the latest sign that Christmas is around the corner.

As I follow teh story online I see no one commenting from the State Capitol. It is like the sign just appeared. It would be highly interesting to see what the Governor’s Office comment on the matter. Then again, I suppose there is no comment.
